Animal Crossing New Horizons Anniversary Update Incoming: Here's what we know!
It feels like it's almost every week that Animal Crossing New Horizons is getting a big new update, but here we are again, with perhaps the biggest one yet: the New Horizons Anniversary Update.
Having launched on March 20th, 2020, New Horizons quickly became perhaps the most popular AC game yet. It took the modern pop-culture by storm, and followed up its immediate success with a great number of collaborations with more popular companies than we could count, as well as with various existing intellectual properties.
It's been a wild ride, that's for sure. Naturally, Nintendo's interested in continuing this rollercoaster of awesomeness well into 2021, and so the year's already had a few hefty upgrades for AC in tow.
The Anniversary Update is, naturally, going to be pretty darn major. Find everything we know about it below!
New Horizons Anniversary Update Details
With the Anniversary celebrations slated to kick off in just two days' time, you may be happy to hear that the content update itself is, in fact, coming out today. That's right: there's going to be a bunch of good stuff to go through and have fun with, and we've got the highlights right here.
Perhaps the most important novelty of the Anniversary Update is going to be the addition of more customizable items. Is ACR getting a massive expansion? You never know! Either way, you'll now be able to fully customize and edit the following items in New Horizons:
- Umbrellas
- Uchiwa Fans
- Small Flags
- Photo Stands
On top of that - and perhaps even more importantly - you're also getting 50 more custom item slots to go along with these new customization options. Neat!
Note that you will need to unlock these extra features and goodies by spending Nook Miles at the Nook Stop first, so don't fret if you don't see them available right away.
Not everything needs to be unlocked for access in the Anniversary Update, of course. As soon as you log in, you're going to get a lovely tiered cake to place in your abode, which is sure to bring the celebratory spirit of the update to light.
April Fool's Day Items are coming
While we don't know yet what, exactly, will the April Fool's Day range of items include, we do know that it's coming. One of these items will be the classic whoopee cushion, so we're betting on some cool features like the ones we saw with the Super Mario update.
Prom Night items will be making their way into the game as well: expect a selection of uniforms and housing inventory such as Prom Night Flooring and Prom Night Wall, if that's the sort of thing you're looking for.
This content is dropping on April 1st, as you'd expect.
Bunny Day is coming back, too!
Remember Animal Crossing: New Horizons' first major event? The Bunny Day? That was a whole heaping spoonful of fun right there, wasn't it? Thankfully, it seems like Nintendo's going to reel the eggs in this time around.
Aside from being able to participate in the (normalized, we hope) egg hunt activities, players will now also be able to purchase older Bunny Day items and furniture via Nook's Cranny, but they'll also be craftable, if that's an avenue you'd prefer pursuing.
We'll also get a bunch of new Bunny Day items to go along with the event, which may ease things even further. All in all, we don't think Nintendo would repeat last year's mistakes, so we're looking forward to the whole shindig.
Don't forget about the Island Tour Creator!
Finally, if you've been hoping for an integrated tool to best show off your incredible New Horizons island, you'll be extremely pleased to hear that Island Tour Creator is set and primed to launch on March 23rd.
This limited-time service is going to be up and running for the rest of 2021, and it's going to allow players to use their in-game screenshots to build custom postcards from their own screenshots and footage.
More information about this curious addition should be dropping in soon enough, but if you're looking to commemorate certain spots or features of your island, you're definitely going to be interested in the Island Tour Creator.
