Nintendo Switch Pro Leaks are Piling Up: What Does That Mean for Animal Crossing?
We're going to go ahead and presume that you're well-aware of all the leaks that have come up surrounding the supposed Nintendo Switch Pro, yeah? We've tackled this particular topic before, though we can't shake the feeling that there's a bit more to it this time around after all.
Today, we'll take a short look-see at what the rumor mill's been saying as of late. We'll also explain whether we think it's coming or not, as well as the potential effect a Switch Pro could have on New Horizons as a whole.
To be sure, it's a pretty hecking big can of worms to be opening, but the good news is that we should be just a few short weeks away from a Nintendo Switch Pro announcement. There's that, we suppose!
Latest Batch of Nintendo Switch Pro Rumors
The obvious first order of business - what is Nintendo Switch Pro supposed to be in the first place?
This latest batch of rumors comes from a more reliable source of information than we had gotten used to: Bloomberg. Now, to be sure, Bloomberg's authors have been reporting on the purported production of a Pro model of Switch for quite some time now. With them claiming that an announcement is coming in just a few short weeks, though, we're giving them more credence this time around.
Naturally, this comes on the back of several other curious Nintendo-related info-drops. It all came to a head not long ago, with sources claiming that we ought to expect a mid-June announcement pertaining to an upgraded Switch.
So, setting all of that aside for a little while, what is Nintendo Switch Pro (apparently) going to look like in the first place?
- 7'' OLED display from Samsung (likely 720p)
- Nvidia-focused integration of hardware, DLSS potentially included for 4K upscaling
- Should cost more than $300, according to leaks (with Switch Lite being the more affordable alternative)
Sadly, that's about all we've heard so far. It does paint a reasonably clear and sensible picture, though, we feel.
Is Nintendo Switch Pro Really Coming, Though?
If it hasn't been clear up until now - you should still keep a handful of salt at hand about all these rumors. Sure, they sound pretty reasonable and believable, but we needn't point out that Nintendo's been completely mum on the matter so far, right?
Given everything we know, though, it would hardly be a surprise if we were to get a Switch Pro announcement next month.
The original 2017 Switch release was already heavily out-of-date by the time it came out, and though Nintendo's well-known for using subpar hardware to create stellar consoles, an upgrade's been overdue for quite a while now.
As for this proverbial Switch Pro's features, we think DLSS is the most exciting item on the list. As you may know, Deep Learning Super-Sampling is Nvidia's cutting-edge tech that uses AI and the onboard GPU Tensor hardware cores to upscale low resolution images to produce significantly better-looking picture quality with minimal performance overhead.
On PC, this works out to a massive performance increase in supported games on supported graphics cards - namely Nvidia's RTX offerings, since they are the only ones with the necessary hardware to run DLSS in the first place.
A Switch with Tensor cores would be groundbreaking, make no mistake.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons at 4K? What Are The Odds?
Now, if you're having a hard time imagining what Animal Crossing: New Horizons might look like on Nintendo Switch Pro, we've got great news for you. Namely, it was just a few months back that SnazzyAI, a popular Youtuber, posted an upscaled version of the New Horizons trailer running at 4K.
If you're interested in that sort of thing, be sure to check it out using the link featured below. Otherwise, all we can do right now is to wait and see if Bloomberg's reports really are true this time around.
Stay tuned!
