10 Characters Other Than Super Mario We'd Love to See in New Horizons

The long-awaited Super Mario Update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is at our doorstep, but as always, we're already looking toward the next exciting content drop that might be coming our way.

In case you don't know, we're so excited about this content drop because we're getting Super Mario costumes with unique item interactions. Nintendo has announced, for example, that these costumes (Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Wario) will have some sort of special properties, making them a tiny bit more intriguing than a regular texture swap.

Besides, if it's just clothes you want, you really only need to visit the AC Runway home-page. The selection of streetwear, designer items, and cheeky custom pieces available is just incredible, so be sure to give it a whirl.

The whole shindig got us thinking, though: what other character costumes would we love to get in New Horizons? What sort of special properties could those have?

If you're looking for crazy ideas, look no further: a top 10 list of our favorites awaits!

Top 10 Best Character Costumes We'd Love to See in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Look, we're not going to be joking around. What you're about to see and read is completely unprecedented and imbalanced to the point of ridiculousness. But it's fun! Just don't say we didn't warn you...

Sonic the Hedgehog - The Sonic Franchise

It's never going to happen, of course, but getting a Sonic costume in New Horizons with the ability to go fast would be just phenomenal. It's not like moving around the Islands is particularly annoying, but we'd just love to run at a basically uncontrollable speed. Yes, practicality has already been thrown out the window.

Rayman - Rayman Series

Animal Crossing has never really offered the ability to jump to its players. Including a Rayman costume, however, would be the perfect excuse to do so! Perhaps its special ability could be a stand-in for pole-vaulting, allowing you to focus more on other tasks, like collecting Lums.

Gordon Freeman - Half-Life

One of the most popular PC gaming characters of all time, Gordon Freeman is no stranger to visiting other games. While we're not 100% positive what this costume's special property might be, we bet it would rely on crowbars and/or headcrabs to some extent. Or, perhaps, poorly directed portals? Mysterious suit-clad aliens? So much potential here.

Bowser - The Super Mario Franchise

When the Super Mario Update for New Horizons was announced, we were basically 100% positive we'd get Bowser in some shape or form. Now that this hope has gone nowhere, we can think about how cool it would be to be able to wear a spiky turtle shell on our New Horizons characters' backs. As for the special ability, how about shooting fireballs? Non-damaging, of course, but cool nonetheless!

The Goose - Untitled Goose Game

Imagine being able to visit a friend's New Horizons Island dressed as the Goose, and then temporarily stealing some of their items/tools until you leave the session? Hilarious, we know, but there's no way it's ever going to happen. We can still hope, at least!

Doomguy / Slayer - Doom Series

An insanely popular meme back before Doom Eternal and New Horizons came out, the Doomguy Animal Horizons schtick is still quite a thing to behold. It's no surprise to us that the Slayer himself would have a soft spot for AC's goofy animals, so this is really a match made in heaven. Doomguy could, perhaps, be able to grapple-hook his way around Islands, just to keep things PG enough.

Sam Porter Bridges - Death Stranding

Being able to lug more stuff around is always handy! Doubly so in Animal Crossing, where inventory limitations become painfully apparent sooner, rather than later. The Death Stranding costume could, perhaps, add an additional storage item to the mix!

The Xenomorph - The Alien Franchise

Look, we know. We get it. The Xenomorph is one of the most terrifying creatures ever conceived by a human mind. That's half the fun of its New Horizons costume! Its special interaction could be that the player wearing it would become invisible next to walls, allowing you to sneak up on others and spook them out of their minds.

Geralt of Rivia - The Witcher Series

Hunting monsters might not be a part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but chasing down various kinds of fish and insect wildlife sure is. That's where the theoretical Geralt costume for AC would come in, perhaps affording players a greater chance to encounter catchable animals in the first place.

Mega Man - Mega Man Games

The Mega Man franchise may be past its prime in 2021, but we'd love to see a nostalgic throwback to it via New Horizons. We're not sure what the Mega Man costume's special ability would be, though! It would really need to include the Mega Buster, so perhaps the Mega Man's signature weapon would be able to copy any other tool and enable its effect.

Conclusion

How do you feel about this list? Again, there's absolutely no way any of these costumes ever come to be in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but we thought we'd have a bit of fun thinking about hypotheticals today. Which costumes do you think would be a solid - if totally insane - fit, though?

While we can hardly offer a Mega Buster for you to download, we do have a whole heap of awesome customization options for you to check out here at Animal Crossing Runway. So, even if you, too, are sad that you won't get to dress up as Geralt of Rivia in New Horizons, at least you can look cool doing it, right?
